Agyata Coffee · Bengaluru

Found, never shown.

A coffee house for people who look a little closer.

Stir the crema. Then wait.

Agyata Vasa · the thirteenth year

Greatness, hidden in plain sight.

In the Mahabharata, the Pandavas spent the thirteenth year of their exile in disguise, living among ordinary people with their greatness hidden from the world.

Agyata Coffee celebrates that spirit: the beauty of excellence that reveals itself only when discovered.

Five animals hide in Agyata's forest. Move your light to find them.

Before the cup · Chikmagalur

It starts in the rain.

From June to September the monsoon settles on the Western Ghats. Mist fills the valleys, the red earth darkens, and the estates go quiet and green.

Shade-grown

Coffee likes to hide too.

Here it grows in the shade of tall silver oaks, among pepper vines and fruit trees, never in the open sun.

The blossom shower

One good rain, and the hills turn white.

Early in the year, the first good shower wakes the bushes. Within days the estate flowers white and smells of jasmine, and the long wait for the cherries begins.

Every great coffee was once a secret

Seven beans, carried in secret.

The story goes that around 1670, Baba Budan carried seven coffee beans out of the port of Mocha, hidden from view, and planted them in the Chandradrona hills of Chikmagalur. India's coffee began there, as something hidden.

The room

Terracotta, ink and a long story wall.

Inside, terracotta walls meet white plaster under a dark open ceiling. Ink drawings hang on every wall, and a long story wall waits to be read while your coffee brews.

You come in through an arch. Most people stop there for a second.
